Solis S6 + WeCo 5K3 commissioning checklist
This checklist covers all required steps for commissioning a battery energy storage system (BESS) consisting of a Solis S6 inverter and WeCo 5K3 battery modules. Every step is mandatory — skipping any step will result in the system not being fully operational.
Step 1: Unpack batteries and start the charging/balancing process
Balancing all individual WeCo battery modules prior to commissioning is mandatory for KanFLEX compatibility. The balancing process can take several hours per module and must be started as early as possible after delivery.
Step 2: Install ventilation
Adequate ventilation must be in place before installation begins. Without it, the system may become thermally unstable and fail to perform to the required level due to heating or cooling issues.
KanEL reviews all site plans before installation can start.
Step 3: Install wiring
Run all necessary cabling before physically mounting any hardware. Installing cabling after hardware is mounted is time-consuming and expensive.
Cables to run at this stage:
Network cables
AC cables
DC cables
Step 4: Install the Solis inverter
Install the Solis S6 inverter according to the Solis manufacturer documentation.
Step 5: Install datalogger and KF1
Install the datalogger and KF1 unit. Choose the appropriate KF1 installation guide for the inverter model in use.
Step 6: Connect batteries and commission the inverter
6.1 Initial setup
1. Mount racks, WeCo HV boxes, and battery modules
2. Follow the hardware connection guide that matches the system configuration:
System configuration | Guide |
Solis S6 (5–20K) + WeCo 5K3 STACK | Solis S6 (5–20K) to WeCo 5K3 STACK |
Solis S6 (30–50K) + WeCo 5K3 STACK | Solis S6 (30–50K) to WeCo 5K3 STACK |
Solis S6 (30–50K) + WeCo 5K3 RACK | Solis S6 (30–50K) to WeCo 5K3 RACK |
6.2 System configuration
Complete the following firmware and app configuration steps in order:
1. Upgrade firmware in the WeCo HV box and battery modules
2. Connect the WeCo HV boxes using the WeCo WiFi app — create a new site in the app and fill in all required information
3. Upgrade firmware in the Solis inverter
6.3 Testing and verification
Verify that the Solis inverter charges the WeCo batteries without any warnings or alerts before completing the installation
6.4 Documentation
Record the serial number of every inverter and every WeCo HV box
Share all serial numbers with KanEL through Slack
Important notes
All steps in this checklist are required for every installation. If any step is skipped, the system will not be fully operational.
