WeCo Hybo + A-KOOL commissioning guide
This guide covers the full commissioning process for a WeCo Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) using a WeCo Hybo inverter with the A-KOOL integrated battery cabinet. All steps are required — skipping any step will leave the system not fully operational.
Prerequisites
Before starting installation, confirm the following:
Site ventilation plan has been reviewed and approved by KanEL
All required cabling (network, AC, DC) is available on site
Step 1: Install ventilation
Ventilation must be addressed before physical installation begins. Insufficient ventilation causes thermal instability and will prevent the system from performing at the required level.
KanEL reviews all site plans before installation can start. Ensure site plan approval is confirmed before proceeding.
Step 2: Install wiring
Run all necessary cabling before mounting hardware. Retrofitting cables after hardware is installed is time-consuming and expensive.
Cables required:
Network cables
AC cables
DC cables
Step 3: Install inverter
Install the WeCo Hybo inverter following the manufacturer manuals and ventilation guidelines.
Step 4: Install datalogger and KF1
The KF1 is KanEL's hardware controller unit. Install the datalogger and KF1 before connecting batteries.
Step 5: Connect batteries and commission the inverter
5.1 Install A-KOOL
Follow the A-KOOL Quick Installation Guide for physical installation of the A-KOOL unit.
5.2 System configuration
1. On the Hybo inverter, set the protocol to HV CAN
2. Upgrade firmware in the following components:
- HV boxes
- Battery modules
- CAN combiner
- Inverter
3. Connect HV boxes using the WeCo WiFi app — create a new site and fill in the required information
4. Contact KanEL via Slack to configure the CAN combiner
5. On the Hybo inverter, configure the following settings and share details with KanEL via Slack:
- Country code
- IP address
- HMI password
5.3 Testing and verification
1. Run a full discharge and charge cycle for 10 minutes
- Verify that power stays at 1C throughout
2. Confirm the CAN combiner green light is on
3. Set the system to remote mode
4. Test remote charge
5.4 Documentation
Record and share the following with KanEL via Slack:
Serial number of the inverter(s)
Serial number of every HV box
Important notes
All steps in this guide are required for every installation. If any step is skipped, the system will not be fully operational.
